Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras are one of the principle sources that almost all, if not all, the different yoga lineages refer back to for inspiration and instruction. They are in the ancient Indian language Sanskrit. Traditionally the sutras were studied by memorising them and chanting them before really delving into the meaning. This is how I was taught by TKV Desikachar in his book The Heart of Yoga. So I found a CD and a DVD by his children and I learned the Sutras. I also used BKS Iyengar’s Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali as a reference for the diacritical marks and meanings of individual words. Thank you to all of these great teachers. May you excel in your study of Yoga and of this great resource for Yoga, The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Samadhi Pada is primarily about samadhi and the different states of consciousness along the way there. I have been learning for a few years and have just been reviewing recently to make sure that I have all my retroflex letters pronounced. If there are any mistakes they are my own and I welcome any feedback from those more well versed in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali than I.
