New Age meditations are often influenced by Eastern philosophy and mysticism such as Yoga, Hinduism and Buddhism, yet may contain some degree of Western influence. In the west meditation found its mainstream roots through the hippie- counterculture social revolution of the 1960s and 1970s when many of the youth of the day rebelled against traditional belief systems. [edit] Sikhism

Main article: Nām Japō

In Sikhism, the practices of simran and Nām Japō encourage quiet meditation. This is focusing one’s attention on the attributes of God. Sikhs believe that there are 10 ‘gates’ to the body; ‘gates’ is another word for ‘chakras’ or energy centres. The top most energy level is the called the tenth gate or dasam dwar. It is said[attribution needed] that when one reaches this stage through continuous practice meditation becomes a habit that continues whilst walking, talking, eating, awake and even sleeping. There is a distinct taste or flavour when a meditator reaches this lofty stage of meditation, as one experiences absolute peace and tranquility inside and outside the body.

Followers of the Sikh religion also believe that love comes through meditation on the lord’s name since meditation only conjures up positive emotions in oneself which are portrayed through our actions. The first Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Nanak Dev Ji preached the equality of all humankind and stressed the importance of living a householder’s life instead of wandering around jungles meditating, the latter of which being a popular practice at the time. The Guru preached that we can obtain liberation from life and death by living a totally normal family life and by spreading love amongst every human being regardless of religion.

Taoism includes a number of meditative and contemplative traditions. Originally said to have their principles described in the I Ching, Tao Te Ching, Chuang Tzu and Tao Tsang among other texts; the multitude of schools relating to Qigong, Neigong, Daoyin and Zhan zhuang are a large, diverse array of breath training practises in aid of meditation with much influence from later Chinese Buddhism and with much influence on traditional Chinese medicine and the Chinese as well as some Japanese martial arts. The Chinese martial art T’ai Chi Ch’uan is named after the well-known focus for Taoist and Neo-Confucian meditation, the T’ai Chi T’u, and is often referred to as “meditation in motion”.

Often Taoist Internal martial arts, especially Tai Chi Chuan are thought of as moving meditation. A common phrase being, “movement in stillness” referring to energetic movement in passive Qigong and seated Taoist meditation; with the converse being “stillness in movement”, a state of mental calm and meditation in the tai chi form.

your thoughts will never go away, there apart of your mind, but you can ignor them, just focus on your breathing, and what ever is easiest for you. and learn to (let go of your thoughts) notice when something grabs your attention it sparks a thought and your conscious grabs that thought. lear to just allow the thought to pass through your attention and float away.

    Meditation is a …
Meditation is a cumulative process. When you start your mind is full of thoughts – and it is impossible to quash them. What you need to do is (if you can) – just recognise them, but don’t pay them any further heed. You can’t by force of will make them go away, but you can acknowledge them and leave it at that. Don’t get too hung-up about thought(s). Just practice daily, and I promise that your intrusive thoughts will lessen as the days go by.

I have watched all these videos, and I am so interested in meditation!!! ^^ I have a couple of questions though because I cant help but fail to reach the meditative state :’(
    1) Will the thoughts go away by themselves, when I just sit and relax, or I have to do something for it? I cant help but think of stuff :’(
And number 2) Is it possible to have no breath at all?? And will it happen itself after much time of sitting and relaxing or I have to do it?

  20. candygir7 Says:

    the momet you are …
the momet you are in total meditation (no thoughts of yourself and your soul has left the body) that is when demons and evil people can enter your body and take control of it. never leave your body!!! never! never stop thinking! never! no wonder we are like hypnotized zombies, buying things we don’t need and not being able to be happy even when there is no reason to be unhappy- find the balance between body and spirit and keep that balance or else you turn into an animal or a ghost, respectfully

  21. candygir7 Says:

    what is with the …
what is with the hypnosis visual in the first 90 secords? some people eat up the cosmic energy instead of enriching it! is god the sun & are we slowing but surely consuming him? the pagans believe this, that’s why they never converted to Christianity & simply brought all their pagan believes into the new religion. scientists tell us that eventually our sun will die out &so will the earth. what will be of the humans? are we going to continue to eat up the cosmose energy? when we sin we do this.

  22. Dezaru Says:

    If you believe that …
If you believe that it’s really hard for you to meditate, then it will be really hard for you to meditate. if you believe that you can’t meditate, then you simply can’t meditate. if you try to meditate, then you keep trying and trying until you realize, there is no trying, there is no “I can’t” or “this is too hard” You simply do. This is said time and time again. It’s so simple that it’s too good to believe. All that is required to change your consciousness is simply telling yourself 3 words.
